Alan is a keen fisherman who lived opposite the project site of an old flax mill for years; the pond had been used by the mill until it closed and Alan saw its potential to be brought back to life as a trout fishery. He was awarded funding to carry out restoration works and install facilities to create an environmentally friendly site and encourage people of all ages and ability to pursue a hobby and take care of their environment. He also works with schools in the local area to host visits for educational workshops, for example, environmental gardening, hedgerow wildlife observations and pond dipping. The business operates as a day ticket fishery offering a full or half day charge for catch and release and took part in the recent South Antrim Fishing Festival.
