Millar Woodcrafts is a specialist joinery business supplying quality bespoke joinery items, including staircases, windows and doors for private and commercial customers. The business began trading in 2003 and after one year in business, project promoter, Colin Millar, found that there was a huge demand for his products. In order to expand and develop the company, he applied for Rural Development Programmefunding to purchase specialist wood carving machinery, including a cutting and moulding machine, which has allowed him to increase the quality and increase production of his products. Colin also received funding to invest in marketing the business to new customers.
Millar Woodcraft was awarded a second amount of grant aid to purchase a drum sanding and tenoning machine in order to increase the product range the business can offer.
Millar Woodcraft has sustained jobs and provided training and employment for two young men aged under 25 in this niche sector.
“Funding under the Rural Development Programme has provided my business with the opportunity to increase capacity through the purchase of new machinery. This funding will help sustain existing employment in skilled woodwork and will create future employment opportunities in the rural area of Randalstown.”
