- Grant: £20,000 (Project 1) £3,132.50 (Project 2)
Project promoters David & Henrietta Reade received grant assistance to convert a disused barn into a conference and training facility. Funding was awarded to refurbish the existing building, involving structural work, roofing, flooring, the installation of windows, shower facilities and a heating system and decoration. The facility includes a large studio room which can be used for conferences, exercise classes or corporate events, a computer suite with networked computers for training, gaming and presentations, a fully equipped kitchen which can accommodate caterers or be used for self-catering and a reception area which opens out to the tennis court and garden area; this can also be used for receptions.
The conference and IT facilities are available for hire and Breckenhill also runs corporate and private teambuilding away-days. Activities such as archery, falconry, fishing and tennis can all be arranged for groups and shower facilities are available for visitors. Leadership games are also on offer to develop leadership and communication skills and skirmishing, an outdoor tactical team game can also be organised on request. Last year Breckenhill introduced the Earthball – a 6-foot diameter ‘beachball’ – for a variety of games and teambuilding activities.
Breckenhill has been offered further grant aid to purchase archery equipment and undertake archery coaching training to expand the range of activities offered for teambuilding and visitors to the venue. Funding was also awarded to purchase tables, a marquee and items to allow Breckenhill to cater for weddings and different types of events.
"The Rural Development Programme funding was vital as, without it, we would not have been able to complete the barn restoration and provide facilities to the high standard we have achieved.”
