Ballyclare Self Storage
- Awardee: Roy Kennedy
- Location: Glen Road, outside Ballyclare
- Council: Newtownabbey
- Grant: £38,122
Project promoter, Roy Kennedy, is a dairy farmer with over 40 years experience and after completing the Diversification Challenge course at CAFRE, he saw a gap in the market for storage services and decided to diversify by converting redundant farm buildings and setting up a new storage business on his farm. Roy received funding of £38,122 to convert an agricultural shed into a secure storage facility with 20 units and spaces for larger outdoor storage, for example for boats and caravans and also to market the business to customers.
"With people travelling or relocating and having smaller homes or living in apartments, often they don't have enough space to store furniture or seasonal belongings, such as bikes, garden furniture or even caravans in the wintertime. I did some market research and saw a need for storage services in this area and this project is an ideal business as it will allow me to continue to farm on a smaller scale and supplement my income from the farm."
