Crumlin Village Works Now Complete

GROW LAG Chair Vera McWilliam, Mayor of Antrim, Cllr Paul Michael, GROW JCC Vice-Chair Cllr Annemarie Logue, Neil Balmer, DRD, Cllr Thomas Burns, Jackson Minford, DRD, Ald Sam Dunlop and Karen Brown, Antrim Borough Council.
The Enhancement Scheme involved the removal of the unsightly old overhead electricity cables and associated poles, installation of new street paving and street furniture, a programme of tree planting and the upgrading of the Christmas lighting system. In addition, a number of traffic management measures were carried out including new waiting restrictions for new parking arrangements on Main Street.
Antrim Borough Council has worked in partnership with Crumlin Improvement Association, Crumlin Together, DRD Roads Service and Northern Ireland Electricity to bring about these environmental improvements to the centre of the village.
Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Paul Michael, unveiled a plaque to mark its completion and to acknowledge those who provided funding. He commented, "I would like to thank GROW South Antrim and DRD Roads Service for their significant financial contributions to the scheme. The Council is delighted to see it completed as it has helped us realise a key part of Council's Masterplan for Crumlin that was put in place in 2007."
The Mayor continued, "I would like to extend my thanks to the businesses and residents for their patience and co-operation while the work was taking place. I am confident that these improvements will bring a welcome boost to local businesses and services and I hope that it will help to attract further investment and development into the village. There is already some evidence of new investment emerging, with traders improving their properties to complement the works and one new business opening in the village. I'm sure everyone will agree that the scheme has enhanced the general appearance of the heart of Crumlin, by creating an attractive village setting for visitors, local shoppers and workers."
The overall scheme cost approximately £625,000 with funding from GROW South Antrim, Antrim Borough Council and DRD Roads Service and private sector investment from Northern Ireland Electricity.
Antrim Borough Council will continue its commitment to the development and sustainability of Crumlin through its Masterplan for the village and by continuing to work in partnership with the voluntary, community, private and public sectors.
